Cookie Exchange Planning Made Simple

Cookie Exchange Planning Made Simple

11:25am 09/25/2009

Hosting a Cookie Exchange is a great way to gather with friends as you marvel over each other’s baking skills and share special cookie stories. With a little preparation, your holiday Cookie Exchange will be the talk among your friends, and each guest will go away with a delightful assortment of delectable cookies.

It’s best to have your Cookie Exchange early in the day so that your guests may have the rest of the day to spend shopping, wrapping, decorating or preparing for more formal holiday evening gatherings.

Here are some other planning essentials for your checklist:

  • Decide on the number of guests you’d like to have at your party, remembering that twelve is ideal, and send out your invitations.
  • Inform your guests that they must bring a dozen cookies for sampling at the party and another dozen to divide among your guests to take home.
  • Be sure to ask each guest what cookie he or she will be making to ensure that you don’t get two or more of the same kind of cookie at your party.
  • Get an RSVP from each guest, and prepare for last-minute cancellations.
  • Plan ahead. Don’t bake cookies on the same day of the party because they will tend to stick when stacked. Arrange cookies into packages of one dozen each.
  • Play festive music, and take pictures of guests as they arrive.
  • Greet them with a beverage that’s been simmering on the stove. A hot cup of eggnog, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, herbal tea or coffee is a welcome delight.
  • For a successful Cookie Exchange, invite friends who also like baking.

Print out our recipe cards and ask your guests to write out their cookie recipes to give out to the other guests. As a special parting gift, you can put all the dry ingredients layered in a jar with your recipe attached. It’s a great way to spread the holiday joy and have your guests remembering the fun they had at your Cookie Exchange.
